GRADUATE COMMENTS

Class was very informative. Gave enough information to start your own Brokerage the following week. The fact that internship as an agent is being offered is good because that gives experience prior to starting own business. TTA is highly recommended.

The most important thing I learned is about business ethics – being honest and integrity. Do not have to fear competition but to offer the best service to the shippers and consignees and have repeat business and referrals. Also to respect and treat carriers right and pay them fairly. DeWayne is very experienced in his field and passing on his knowledge. This class has given me the right focus and knowledge to take my first step in doing this business. I also know that I can count on their support on my journey to success.

The Class is of a good size to where the teacher can speak clearly and communicate with all of the students. I really liked the fact that everybody’s questions were answered as they were asked. However, the best part of all was that the things that were said were honest and clear whether the students liked the comments or not. It may have opened up their eyes. The instructor was very clear and professional. I enjoyed the way that he made everyone think positive.

Dear Mr. Brown,

Previous to attending the course I must admit I was a bit skeptical. Was this a scam, will I learn anything, is this just another course where you walk away with nothing?
I have to say that after attending it, the course was worth the money I invested.
DeWayne was impressive, and I must admit at times comical, and very informative with the aspects of brokering.
The impressive part to myself was how he instructed the start up, as we do not have a lot of funds available at this time due to my disability.
Again I must say I am thankful after 30 years in trucking, I have found a new niche for myself.
Heartfelt Thanks,

This email is to advise anyone who is thinking about becoming a Freight Broker.  My wife and I have been in the business a little over five months.  We are so busy, it is unbelievable.  First, we would tell everyone that this isn’t for everyone, but hard work will pay off.  There are many situations that have confronted us and Transport Training of America was a great help and continues to help us.  We tell everyone that you must keep a positive attitude and failure is not an option.  We have done a little over $165,000.00 in gross sales and moved well over 115 loads at this point.  We are growing every day and our reputation is becoming the most important thing to help grow our business.  I just tell everyone if you are expecting brokering to be easy money and no work; you are sadly mistaken.  It is however, very rewarding and has many benefits.  Forget what your friends (such as truckers, dispatchers, and fellow sales people) in the business tell you about freight brokers being lying, cheating thieves.  There is so much work out here that if you want to work then you will.  It is all about attitude and hard work!  Some people find reasons to fail in this business and that just means there is more for us.  Understand, when I gave the figure before that we didn’t move any loads for the first 6 weeks of opening our doors for business.  So, we have only been moving loads for about four and a half months.  Transport Training of America was a great help in training us how to make money, and we also must work hard with the tools that the School gave us.  Transport Training of America has been very straight forward with us and stood behind everything they told us.  If you have any questions about Transport Training of America or our business, please feel free to contact us.    R. With regards to a classroom setting this is by far the most interesting I've ever sat in (including university and multiple other courses).  Was made to feel that there was a genuine determination to make all students successful.  I truly enjoyed the entire week and would recommend course to ay and everyone interested in becoming a broker.  Thank you!!                          R. The class exceeded my expectation.  It was very informative and very interesting.  I have gained a vast amount of very useful knowledge, most importantly I feel we were trained to be brokers with the very best honesty and integrity.            D Williams  Graduate 8-27-04
Would not have had the confidence to be a broker without this class.  DeWayne is a very good teacher that shows you in order how to make this business work (very understanding)!  Worth every penny spent!           L. LeGowski  Graduate 4-2-04
As someone that has attended many training programs over the years this is absolutely the best program I have ever attneded.  DeWayne is the most informative instructor I've ever seen - knows what he is doing!           E.   Johns   Graduate 7-23-04
I enjoyed the class very much.  I was told from some other agents who worked for another brokerage that I didn't need this school.  I couldn't have went to work and had any idea about how things were suppose to work.  If you do the things you were taught in this class there is no reason you shouldn't be successful at it.          J. Davis   Graduate 4-16-04
This is an excellent training program.  I was impressed by Mr. Gilbreath's knowledge of this industry.  I'm excited about being part of this industry.  Mr. Gilbreath had made it easy to understand and TTA seems to have a great support system.  I was a little apprehensive at first but it was well worth the money.        S. Brown    Graduate 8-13-04
As an ex-truck driver/owner operator; I do believe that I should have taken this course years ago.  It would of helped me a lot.  DeWayne was an excellent teacher/instructor.  Material was extremely helpful and will be very useful in the future as tools to go by.  I would recommend highly.          S. Pierce  Graduate 5-21-04
One week is very intense but you will cover all points.  Questions are gone over thoroughly.  There is individual time spent with each student that is having a problem.  They are not going to let you move past a subject unless you are clear.  I am extremely grateful for the time and effort from this school.  I would highly recommend this school.                  J. Dear Tim Kelly:

Subject: Freight Broker Training School Advertisement

I recently attended the above training school, which I learned about through your advertisement in Land Line magazine.  Once again, OOIDA has led me down the correct path!

I would highly recommend this course to anybody who is considering obtaining their own carrier authority, anybody who is considering obtaining their own broker authority or anybody who is or is considering becoming an agent for an independent or in-house brokerage firm.  The knowledge you acquire, as a carrier will help you find and negotiate better paying freight.  The knowledge you obtain as a broker or agent will keep you from paying for many a load out of your own pocket.  The cost of the class is small compared to the potential earnings and savings from following the proper steps to avoid disaster.

The school is based on the principles of Honesty, Integrity, and Service.  This is something that is definitely lacking in the trucking industry today.  They are seeking to bring these principles back.  H.I.S. is the name of their brokerage house, which is affiliated with the training school.  We, as drivers, know how much more easily the industry would run if we were not lied to and stabbed in the back.  Imagine how a shipper would feel to receive quality service!  The instructors were knowledgeable and there is continued support from the school after you continue on in your career.

OOIDA has helped me from day one.  As I seek to obtain my carrier and broker authority, I am grateful that I have a partner (or should I say two partners!) to help me down that path.  Sign me….

Grateful,

Debbie A. G.

After ten years in the logistics and transportation industry, I was approached by a colleague of mine with a proposal to go into business together.  He wanted me to become a freight broker to help compliment his business in the meat industry.  After careful consideration and thought we agreed to build this relationship, and I started down the path of educating myself on what it would take to become a successful independent freight broker.

After scouring the internet for information, I soon realized that I might be in over my head if I was to just open up shop and start trying to book loads…even with my considerable background and knowledge of the industry.  Then I came upon information about the Transport Training of America school in Prattville, Alabama, and I was immediately intrigued.  After a few calls to Mike and Dirk, I knew this was the program for me.

I attended the December, 2002 session down in Alabama and was completely amazed at the depth and breadth of training we received that week.  A sound curriculum guided by extensive texts, real-life examples and hands-on training provided a sound education in the right way to conduct business as a broker.  Daily repetition of the “required” steps to prospect for shippers, validate and acquire carriers, use the internet to find trucks, book loads, dispatch and track shipments and get paid helped ingrain the proper work habits to ensure hassle-free and successful freight movements.  Upon graduation I felt confident that I could do this job, with the right tools, and do it right every time.

In the weeks leading up to our start-up date, I frequently called on both Mike and Dirk for assistance and guidance.  Both men were always available, provided sound advice, and helped in numerous ways above and beyond my expectations of any school program I’ve attended.  From the right load boards to subscribe to, rate matrix development, carrier insurance follow-ups, and even assuring me I negotiated and booked my first load properly…these guys once again made me feel confident that I was doing things the right way.

I can’t wait for the next load to move…thanks again guys!

"During the period of 9-1-02 to 11-30-02, the net profit of our brokerage operation has increased over 166% compared to the previous eight months of 2002.  This is a direct result of what I was exposed to during my six days in Prattville, AL.  The information presented during the training program was incorporated into a revised business plan which is now producing outstanding results.  Anyone who attends this course should experience a substantial return on investment."

I am Ken Hanson, President of what is now K & D Freight thanks to this class.  I came to this class with a very limited knowledge of the trucking industry since I had not worked in the industry at all.  I came away from this class with the tools, knowledge and drive to be a successful broker.  They back the training up with great tech support should you have any problems or questions down the road.

I highly recommend this class if you are serious about being a successful broker or agent.  Once you complete this class and master the foolproof steps, doors will open for you and the sky is the limit.  Take it from a person that came from outside the trucking industry...THIS CLASS WORKS!

Transport Training of America is the best training course I have ever attended. I have been in the industry for over 20 years with corporate America. It was time for me to get out there and do it for myself and I don't think there is a finer place to learn the fundamentals, details, and the reality of how and what you can do on your own with a little motivation, guidance, and support from professionals who have experienced it for themselves. The Basic course taught me the right and wrong ways of doing this business and the Advanced course put me in the driver's seat actually seeing and doing things in a real life setting to get the hands on experience. This, to me, was the best training. I can't tell you enough about the motivation and support that I received. It was a great learning experience along with easy to understand materials, but most of all I was treated as if I were one of the family, that meant a lot to me. Thank You to all at Transport Training of America....

Comments from a Landstar Agent

My  name is Michael Puckett.  I came to Transport Training of America to free myself from the road.  I was an owner operator for 10 years.  Thru hard work and perseverance I had obtained the ultimate position in trucking.  My truck was paid for and my spreadaxle reefer was paid for.  I was free and clear, lock stock and barrel.  But, I wasn't happy.  The endless hours behind the wheel, putting up with four wheelers zipping along in la la land and the harassment by the DOT and irritable shippers and receivers had me disgusted.  Many a time, I sat in Flying J's staring at the message boards.  One screen kept getting my attention.  "Become a freight broker, call now."  The tuition seemed a little high, it made me skeptical for a while.  Needless to say, one day I had enough.  I sold my truck for $5600.00, leased my reefer to a friend for a percentage (unfortunately, it was destroyed by IBP) and I walked away from trucking.

The knowledge I gained from TTA not only has helped me as an agent for Landstar Ranger, but also showed me weaknesses in my tenure as an owner operator.  Make no doubt about it, you will become a good negotiator and you will learn how to sale.  Being a broker is not a cake walk, many days I leave my desk with a headache, but the rewards can be great.  More importantly to me, I work from home.  It amazes my family at how hard it is to get me in the car.  I don't want to leave home.  I am very happy staying at home, not fighting traffic or dodging suicidal maniacs just to go to the grocery store.

Is being a freight broker easy? No, but the rewards are plentiful for those who are serious about changing careers.  All you need is a good computer, a phone line, a fax line, TTA's training and a desire to succeed.  And working from home you can get unlimited long distance from AT&T or SBC to reduce your expenses on the phone.

Feel free to check out my website at www.landstaragent.com/RMEP , and if you ever need a truck just give me a ring.

Sincerely, Motormouth.

January 17,2003

Ron Brown,

I wanted to report in with an update on our new company Aspen Transportation.  We received our authority Sept. 12, 2002 .  I moved our first load the same day.  We move more loads each day; however, the first 2 months were quite slow.  As of today, we have moved 277 loads.  We hope to start moving this many monthly soon.  We fully utilize Broker Plus and the Work in Progress software.  The WIP program helps streamline our posting system.  The customer service for Broker Plus has been second to none.

Next week we should be moving the Dept. of Defense freight.

After day three of the Broker Training School , I felt like it was becoming quite repetitious. However, this repetition has been quite helpful.  I am talking to many brokers daily who do not know how to “move a load”.   The steps of your program indicate the only way to move a load, the right way.  I fully realize that if any of the steps are omitted, (especially the SIGNED parts) disaster may occur.

Attention students, make your own outline after you take your final of How to move a load.  Refer to this when you become a broker.  If you feel you have missed a step, you probably have.  The answers are right in front of you on your sheet of ‘Move a Load’.  The price of this class may seem steep.  However, not practicing the steps you learn in this class can cost fees that will dwarf the price of Transport Training School .

Here are comments from just a few of our recent graduates!

There is simply no question as to the value of this course for anyone who wants to start their own successful brokerage business.

The small class size allowed us to get into a level and depth far greater than I expected.  Continued reinforcement of the "27-step" fundamentals helped tie all of the other information and procedures together.  Add in the extremely comprehensive text supplements, and you walk away with everything needed to get up and running...and grow at whatever pace you feel appropriate.

Having the class taught by seasoned industry veterans, coupled with both hands on and real life experiences and examples really helped to solidify concepts and procedures.

Also, having other vendor partners come in and explain their tools was highly beneficial.

Overall, I was extremely impressed by the comprehensiveness and completeness of the course, and thought it was a good value for the price paid.      Evan F.

My evaluation of the course has to be excellent.  I came into the class not knowing how tough or difficult the learning process would be.

From the very first conversation with Mike, my fears, questions and thoughts of becoming a broker were set to ease.  The level of material as well as the amount is massive and unsurpassed with clarity.

Not only was it easy reading it made sense.  I think that helped me understand and fly through the course with ease.  I put it into a common sense mode and it all fell together.

All of the steps could not happen without  previous information and that info was taught with a clear explanation.  The teachers were great.  Ron is a great salesman, his advise and style was smooth and very personable.  Mike was very down to earth and made the course seem like second nature.

I now know that I have the full resources, knowledge and confidence to stand on my own as a broker.

I can't think of many things to make the course any better than it is other than to have it in California (but that's a personal reason).      Zimar M.

Class Evaluation -

I thank you all for an excellent class. I find no fault.  Do not sell your business and stay true to your mission!         Carl T.

The class was excellent, I really got my money's worth.  The whole staff is helpful and knowledgeable.  I will return in 6 or 7 months to get the advanced class on brokerage set up.  That's the goal I have set for myself.  I will tailor my business plan around the information I received in my packet.  I feel confident about what has been accomplished this week.  I will not hesitate to tell others about this class.  This is exactly what I need to kick start my brokerage business.     Terrill F.
Thank you for the vision to see the need for this training, the hard work to put it together, and the willingness to take the risk to start it up.  As the entity grows I hope you will endeavor to find Instructors with the same heart as you have to continue passing on the keys to this exciting occupation.  I can tell you have a lot more that is on your plate and wish the best in your future endeavors.  DeWayne G.
I came here not knowing what to expect and was really nervous because I couldn't really tell you the difference between a dispatcher, agent or a broker.  That was on Monday and today is Friday and I feel like I have come a long way.  I am feeling pretty confident that I can locate a shipper and carrier and move a load!    Anna M.
At first, I felt that the cost of the class may be a little high.  However, I leave today with an altered opinion.  I believe that I have left with knowledge that will save my business and myself much more than  Also, I would have spent a month researching databases and carrier and shipper info before I learned of which ones were better.  So in all, this was money and time well spent!     John S.
Thank You so much for offering this course - I have learned all I needed to get started in the business!  Great Class!       Pam W.
The freight broker training class was very informative.  I enjoyed the class and would recommend it to anyone.     Kennesha P.
The information that has been given to me will be extremely beneficial as a broker and as a carrier.  I now have the resources, confidence and capability that I need to be successful as a broker.  I have knowledge of all the guidelines and numerous details that will allow me to provide better service.  Thanks for everything!            Michelle B.
The class was very informative.  I would hate to think I tried to enter this competitive market without this course; it has already helped me avoid some serious pitfalls.         Billy H.
I came in this class as a novice in the field of Freight Broker and I am proud to proclaim with confidence that I feel I am a professional now.  The methods used by this instructors to reinforce the concepts were phenomenal.  I recommend this course to anyone who desires to become a Freight Broker - you will feel like a pro!    Barry S.
For an individual such as myself, I am walking away with a lot of information, valuable information.  The class was very informative and fairly clear of what is expected of the students.  The instructors answered all questions asked with much confidence....The class was well taught and I am glad that I enrolled in the class.  Derrick D.
The class material has been excellent!  I have finally been able to find the missing pieces of the "brokerage" puzzle that I've needed the past few years.  Overall- EXCELLENT!  I plan for my husband to attend next.  This will make our husband/wife team stronger for our brokerage.  My sincere appreciation to Ron, Dirk and Mike for the time you have spent in researching, developing and preparing the course material!  Rita S.
